What is a Biblical View of LGBTQ?
The Issue
Pushback this past week on Governor Youngkin’s new policy led to a student walkout, but more than just a walkout. Same-gender students standing on top of a table making out and inviting other kids to participate, yelling and cursing on both sides of the fence. And what was his new policy?
The model policies, released Friday evening, require schools to categorize transgender children by their “biological sex” when it comes to using the bathroom, locker room, and other facilities and participating in activities. They also bar students from adopting a new name or pronouns without parental permission.
This new policy by Youngkin did not come out of nowhere. It came from repeated sexual assaults because transgenders were allowed to go in their restroom of choice. One such example was by a skirt-wearing boy who assaulted a girl in a bathroom in Loudon county – twice.
This statement is telling about one participant of the LGBTQ walkout:
“We walked out because our education should not be affected by our gender identities.”
Do you believe that statement? They need to be educated—the gender they were born with is their gender.
Because FB now says there are over 58 genders for users to choose from. If people only realized how foolish and ignorant this is.
When God’s people don’t stand for truth, we are part of the lie.
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
The LGBTQ agenda has been to indoctrinate children, so they went to the schools.
We need to know what we believe and be able to give a reason for what we believe.
The woke and LGBTQ culture need an answer that does not just curse them out, but hopefully gives them the truth that can open their eyes.
So What is LGBTQ+?
It stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Asexual, and the + alludes to other sexual orientations like Pansexual.
What is Queer Theory?
This is taken from an article by Gotquestions.org, and I have provided numerous links below for you so you can become biblically informed.
Queer theory, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is “an approach to social and cultural study which seeks to challenge or deconstruct traditional ideas of sexuality and gender, especially the acceptance of heterosexuality as normative and the perception of a rigid dichotomy of male and female traits.”
There is a push within our present culture to accept the queer theory and homosexual and/or transgender lifestyles as part of natural behavior.
Let’s look at what the Bible teaches about these issues.
The queer theory rejects clearly defined male and female traits and promotes the idea that there are many, many genders.
But the Bible teaches that there are only two genders: male and female. From the very beginning, God’s design for humanity was for man and woman to be together in a marriage relationship (Genesis 2:18–24).
In other words, heterosexuality is the only sexuality chosen by God. Eve was created by God as the “helper suitable” for Adam (Genesis 2:18). God did not make another man for Adam. He made a woman. This was His design.
God’s Design.
God designed each of us how He wanted to, including the gender He assigned for each of us. Those who reject their God-given gender have committed sin against the very God who made them.
In rejecting the Word of God, the queer theory attempts to “deconstruct traditional ideas of sexuality and gender.”
Advocates of queer theory draft their own instruction manual for sexuality, based on their own ideas and preferences.
God did not make us sinners; rather, we have chosen to sin. The rejection of traditional/biblical sexuality is a sinful choice that some people make for a host of reasons, but it ultimately appeals to the lusts of their flesh.
What is Right?
The current push to accept queer theory illustrates the words of Proverbs 14:12: “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death.” It may seem right to cast aside the “old” standards of morality and pursue what feels right, but in the end, God’s Word will hold true.
Christians are called to live by and obey the Word of God, not by the ever-changing philosophies and theories of man.
Romans 1:26–27 – 1 Corinthians 6:9 – 1 Timothy 1:10 – Leviticus 18:22
Let’s explore how these verses apply to a biblical view of LGBTQ.
A Biblical View of LGBTQ is gracious.
The Radical Grace is: We are all in bondage to our own unique struggle with sin but sin no longer has to have a hold on us. When we struggle with the flesh, God can help us. We are never beyond His reach. We have received grace for our sins. We cannot stop sin by sinning. If we curse out LGBTQ people, we are not representing Christ well. When we extend grace with truth, we help people see. All sins fall short of the grace of God. We don’t condone their sin but we show kindness to hopefully win them to Christ.
A Biblical View of LGBTQ is truthful.
The Raw Truth is that: God does not make mistakes. Gender confusion comes from our culture and from the enemy of our souls. You were made in his image and you are beloved. YOUR truth isn’t THE truth. People talk about following “their truth”. Friends, their truth is a lie.
We are not haters to tell the people the truth in love with grace. We are haters if we don’t.
A Biblical View of LGBTQ is hopeful.
And the Real Hope is: Our identity is in Christ, not the gender we were born with, not our job, not anything but being loved by God. God will complete the work He has begun in us, and He can heal the damage that sin has done in our lives.
There is an identity crisis going on today and confusion about our identity as our society has drifted further away from God’s word. And so, people are trying to understand who they are and think they can choose their identity.
Confusion happens when we don’t understand our identity in Christ.
Identity confusion is even causing people to be confused about their gender, something that truly there is no confusion about. Feelings are not fact. We might feel we are not our gender, but it is an indisputable fact that we are.
The problem is, we don’t know how to truly find our identity. So, we let culture define us.
We Don’t Understand Our Identity.
In a recent Lifeway survey, 42% of adults believe that what they do defines their identity. While another 42% believe that who they are determines what they do. While the remaining 15% aren’t sure.
We have let our identity be stolen and do not even know it.
Ultimately, God gave us an identity. We are each uniquely made by Him.
You have an identity. It is sure. It is defined. You are loved by the One Who made you!
We have seen in the news people identifying as a different race. We have also seen people identifying as a different age. These grasps for different identities are obviously bogus and not based on reality.
My identity and your identity don’t come from what we do, where we work, any role we play, or that we imagine, except the one identity God gave us when he uniquely gave us our own set of fingerprints and formed us in the womb. We are His.
No matter what sins we have committed, we can turn back and repent and become a child of God.
So when people think they can change their gender, which, surgically they can do, this will not change their identity. And this is why we see the testimonies pouring in of people who got the surgeries and later regretted it.
Looking at the dictionary meaning of words can also take us back to the root of the original meaning.
Let’s unpack this term gender.
For instance, the word, “gender” in the dictionary today reads,
“Either of the two sexes (male and female), especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. The term is also used more broadly to denote a range of identities that do not correspond to established ideas of male and female.”
“The fact or condition of belonging to or identifying with a particular gender.”
Originally, the definition in Webster from 1913 defines gender as, “the properties that distinguish organisms on the basis of their reproductive roles”.
They took a word that was a biological term and made it a social argument rather than the original concrete definition.
So when did this shift start where the word gender became separated from the sexual orientation of a person by birth?
Education is far different from propaganda and campaigns that try to convince the public that there is something there that just isn’t.
What is Gender Dysphoria?
According to Google’s definition: Gender Dysphoria is the distress a person feels due to a mismatch between their gender identity and their sex assigned at birth.
Merriam Webster chimes in: Gender dysphoria is typically manifested by a rejection of traditional gender roles and by a desire to live as a member of the opposite sex.
Did you catch the free-will choice made in there?
Rejection of traditional gender roles.
A desire to live as a member of the opposite sex.
Because Transgender does not happen to a person; it is chosen.
Why would someone choose that? We have been lied to, my friends.
Changes have been made behind the scenes to try and normalize what is not normal.
Shifts in thinking and language have set the stage for a mass deception that has besieged countries to believe something as simple as the gender we were born with can be questioned.
The diagnostic label gender identity disorder (GID) was used by the DSM, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders until it was renamed gender dysphoria in 2013 with the release of the DSM-5. The diagnosis was renamed to remove the stigma associated with the term disorder.
How did we arrive at this definition? Another shift has been in the classification of mental illnesses and Gender Dysphoria.
Here’s a little history on Gender Dysphoria:
This is according to the National Library of Medicine, National Institute of Health:
Homosexuality, fetishism, gender identity disorder, and associated conditions were mixed together and regarded as types of sexual perversion that were considered ethically objectionable until the 1950s.
The first performance of sex-reassignment surgery was in 1952.
John William Money studied the sexual consciousness about disorders of sex development and advocated the concept of gender in 1957.
Gender dysphoria was not discovered. It was invented. It is NOT a diagnosis.
Thereafter the disparity between anatomical sex and gender identity was referred to as the psychopathological condition of gender identity disorder, and this was used for its diagnostic name when it was introduced into DSM-III in 1980.
A draft proposal of DSM-5 has been submitted, in which the diagnostic name of gender identity disorder has been changed to gender dysphoria.
Other articles point to the manipulation of the diagnostic and statistical manual to remove certain definitions of those within the LGBTQ community.
Y’all. They are changing the dictionaries. Changing the definition of gender to make it a social cause. They are changing our medical books to make sexual perversion ok. The LGBTQ activists are campaigning and moving toward normalizing a sexually deviant lifestyle.
But normalizing something in man’s eyes will not give what the LGBTQ proponents are seeking. We are not trying to offend. God’s word and truth tell us how God made man and woman and what is acceptable and holy. Sexual perversion is rebellion against God’s design.
Their arguments like, “We just want to do with our body what we want and it has nothing to do with you” is SIMPLY NOT TRUE.
They want to twist the minds of children and normalize this behavior which the Bible clearly calls sin, throwing innocent children into confusion.
When an idea is put out there as truth, confusion sets in.
The terms were changed because they were stigmatizing. Making confusion into a scientific phenomenon, to legitimize sin.
Following the destructive path of changing your body, does not truly change your identity.
Resources
A few years back, I did some podcast episodes with Caleb Kaltenbach, the author of the book, Messy Grace, which describes how he grew up with gay parents who divorced and each married same-sex mates. Caleb hated Christians because they hated gays. Until one night when Caleb went to a Christian Bible Study so he could prove they were wrong . . . but he got saved. The Christians were so kind and were able to share a reason for their faith and why homosexuality was a sin.
I have listed some podcast episodes I did on these topics below to listen to and attached is a devotion on your own time.
In researching this topic, I came across another passage of Scripture that speaks to this area. The word of God sets us free. It is from the book of Jude. Go with God, friends. His grace is enough to keep us from stumbling. Stand firm in the faith or you will not stand at all.
The Warnings of History to the Ungodly: Jude
1 [a]Jude, a bond-servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of [b]James,
To those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ: 2 May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you.
3 Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the [c]saints. 4 For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand [d]marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
A Reminder to Believers
5 Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that [e]the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, [f]subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day, 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after [g]strange flesh, are exhibited as an [h]example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.
Undeniable Corruption
8 Yet in the same way these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile [i]angelic majesties. 9 But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” 10 But these men revile the things which they do not understand; and the things which they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals, by these things they are [j]destroyed. 11 Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay [k]they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. 12 These are the men who are [l]hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, caring for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, [m]doubly dead, uprooted; 13 wild waves of the sea, casting up their own [n]shame like foam; wandering stars, for whom the [o]black darkness has been reserved forever.
Nothing New Underneath the Sun
14 It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord came with [p]many thousands of His holy ones, 15 to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” 16 These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; [q]they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage.
Keep Yourselves in the Love of God
17 But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, 18 that they were saying to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” 19 These are the ones who cause divisions, [r]worldly-minded, [s]devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on some, who are doubting; 23 save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, 25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and [t]forever. Amen.
