Hidden Blessings

Good morning, friends! Day Fifteen! Today’s word is blessed. Don’t we all want to be blessed? Maybe we don’t recognize that we already are. Hidden blessings are all around us waiting to be discovered. We just need to look for them.

Bible Reading: Genesis 9-12

Verse of the day is: Genesis 9:1 “And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.’”

Word of the day is: Blessed. It is the Hebrew word: בָּרַךְ (baw-rak).

This word means: to kneel, bless,

In the OT, blessing someone meant “to endue with power for success, prosperity, and longevity.” The patriarchal culture held that the father passed blessings on to the next generation, typically beginning with the first-born son.

Hidden Blessings and Favor

Noah and his family have finally stopped their maiden voyage on the ark. No sooner had God blessed them that Noah drank in abundance and one of his sons gazed on him when he was not decently clothed. The world that was just destroyed for wickedness was headed for trouble again.

The descendants of Noah’s sons eventually lead to the Tower of Babel, where it became apparent that where two or more are gathered, there is sin. So God dispersed them. But God. Abraham found favor in His eyes.

Be Thankful For Hidden Blessings

God is still blessing us today. We might not recognize just how blessed we are. Ephesians 1:3 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” We truly do have everything we need for this life.

All blessing only happens through Jesus. God’s character and goodness, holiness and righteousness are at the heart of every blessing. Despite our waywardness, God’s blessings invite us to come back and go with God.

      • Maybe instead of striving and seeking a blessing for ourselves, we could seek God’s glory in our lives.
      • Seeking to bless God blesses us, too.

Go with God and His precious word, friends! Join us tomorrow in the book of Joshua!
