Chosen For Relationship
Good morning, friends! Day Twenty-Nine! The fact that God chooses us when we have not chosen Him still astounds me and I hope it always does. We are chosen for relationship so we can know God and be a part of His plan of redemption.
Bible Reading: Genesis 17-20
Verse of the day: Genesis 18:19, “For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice, so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”
Word of the day: Chosen It is the Hebrew word: יָדַע (yaw-dah).
This word occurs over 900 times and means: to know; realize, acknowledged, and in this context it is widely translated as know or chosen. Here it is used of God’s knowledge of man. yādaʿ is also used of one’s relationship with God.
He Has Chosen Us
In this unique encounter with the LORD in chapter 18, three men interact with Abraham, confirming the promise of Isaac and God reaffirms that He has chosen Abraham. God states that it is because He knows Abraham that He reveals to him what He is about to do to Sodom and Gomorrah. It is because God has chosen Him that Abraham can intercede for these lost nations, in particular because his nephew was there. God reveals His thoughts to those whom He has chosen and who also know Him.
Relationship Matters
Because God knows us and has chosen us who know Him, how will we intercede for others? God knows us more intimately than anyone else. He knows our thoughts before we even think them. And He reveals His thoughts to us in His word and in our Spirit.
Application
-
- I remember not being picked as a child. Time after time, my value was diminished because I was not seen as the top pick for teams. Rejection hung on me like a wet rag.
- Sometimes people choose us just to get something for us or they choose us to pick on.
- But God’s choosing of us is a reminder to us that when others don’t choose us, we are always chosen by the greatest One of all.
- We are chosen to know Him so we can also help others to find this loving, perfect God.
