Redefining your worth does not start with yourself.
Shame Rx:
When we redefine our worth according to God’s view, our value never changes.
Scripture:
“Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” —Matthew 10:31 (ESV)
Redefining Your Worth
Walking into the room, the tension among the group was palpable. No welcome there. And at that moment, my worth took a hit. I was not worth a smile or a greeting. And so I smiled, anyway, and greeted everyone. Grumbles and halfhearted responses just made me feel even less worthy. But worthy of what? Their attention or affection?
Their responses did not have to translate into my worth being elevated or diminished, That was my choice. But still, in that moment I gave them that power.
Redefining Your Worth—Made in God’s Image
Ever felt less than? Unpopular? Or perhaps just struggle to find motivation because you just don’t think you are able to do what it is you want to do? Redefining our worth helps us to understand that our worth never was about us. God determined our worth by His Son. And when we seek to be like Him, we redefine our worth and let go of the old man.
Redefining Your Worth—Aligning Your Perspective
When we define our worth by another person’s view, we lose perspective and our value, too. But redefining our worth according to a Biblical view reminds us that we were worth dying for.
There is no shame that can define us when we are hidden in Christ. Shame has a way of making us lose motivation to do the work of God in our lives. It limits our worth and tries to define us according to our weakness. But when our motivation is for God’s glory rather than our own, we no longer worry about our worth, but His.
Shame off you!
