Shame RX: Having less does not make us less.
11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Being in a position of need, financially, emotionally, physically or spiritually is a humbling place to be. But it does not mean that our value diminishes. Having less does not make us less than anyone else. It is in our times of need that we pause from our self sufficiency and admit we need some help.
Need is an opportunity. Will we learn to be content like Paul, when times are lean financially or we have less in the health or relationship departments of our life?
So often when we are in need, we run to other things or people for a rescue. And sometimes God uses others to help in time of need. But the secret Paul found is that no matter whether we have less or more, when God gives us strength, we can do all things.
Christ is our strength. He enables us to walk through need and plenty (which can also be a test) all for His glory. We can let go of shame from being in need because we know all we have comes from His hand and we are not defined by the quantity of blessing in our lives, but by how we respond to it, whether prospering or in need, we are blessed to know God and have Him enable us through it all.
