Thankful Thought of the Day:
Thankfulness is an intentional sacrifice.
Scripture of the Day:
Psalm 116:17
“I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the LORD.”
Genuine thankfulness is an intentional sacrifice. Looking up the word “feast” the other day, I was struck by the definition of a feast that was different than just pigging out or having a massive spread of food: “to dwell with gratification or delight.”
What a beautiful word picture of what true gratitude looks like, too. Dwelling – truly maintaining – and relishing each moment. Living a thankful existence does not just happen. It is an intentional sacrifice of our heart when it might seem we do not have anything to be thankful for.
Rising up on Thanksgiving morning, this definition was in my heart. Rather than just spouting out thankful thoughts during our meal, I thought it would be good to intentionally share our thankfulness together in worship of our God before the feast. So we skipped the food and just basked in God’s goodness. Memorable, indeed. Don’t worry – we made up for skipping a meal by the time our Thanksgiving meal came around. Phew!
Now to carry this into our daily lives. May we offer thanksgiving to our great God daily and never forget His lavish mercies upon us.
Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours! I am grateful to count you all as a part of my family, too! As we look at the landscape of all God has brought us through in this past year, we can only be in awe of His mercy and kindness.
What are you thankful for? I thank God for you, too! May God bless you this holiday season and in the coming year. May we all recognize the hand of God in our lives and live for His glory alone!
