Tracing Jesus

As we enter this beautiful season of Advent, I’m reminded that the story of Jesus didn’t begin in Bethlehem — it began in the very first pages of Scripture. Christmas is not a moment isolated in time; it is the unfolding of a promise God spoke long before a star lit the sky over a stable.

From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture traces a single, unbroken thread of redemption — a story pointing to a Savior who would come to rescue, restore, and redeem.

Long before shepherds heard angelic songs,
long before wise men saw a star rise,
long before Mary held Jesus in her arms…

God whispered a promise of hope into a broken world.

💥 “The gospel didn’t begin in the New Testament — it was planted in the garden.”

When Adam and Eve fell, God did not leave them in despair. Instead, He gave the first prophecy of Christmas:

“I will put enmity between you and the woman… He will crush your head.”
— Genesis 3:15

This is the Protoevangelium — the “first gospel.”
A promise that a Redeemer, born of a woman, would one day crush the serpent’s power.

And as the Old Testament unfolds, God keeps tracing the outline of Jesus through covenants, symbols, and shadows:

  • The Lamb provided in place of Isaac.
  • The Seed of Abraham blessing all nations.
  • The Lion of Judah who would rule forever.

Every chapter, every story, every covenant whispers:

“He’s coming.”

This Advent season, let’s pause in awe:

God fulfilled every promise.
Not one word He spoke failed.

And the same God who kept His promise to send Jesus is the God who keeps His promises to you today.

Scripture Reflection

Take time this week to meditate on these early glimpses of Christ:

Genesis 3:15 — The first promise of a Savior

Genesis 22:7–14 — “God Himself will provide the Lamb”

Genesis 49:10 — The Lion of Judah

Ask the Lord to show you Jesus in the pages of Scripture from the very beginning.

Reflection Prompt

👉 Where do you see God’s promises woven into your own story this year?
👉 How does tracing Jesus in the Old Testament strengthen your trust in Him today?

I hope you will join me as we explore all of Scripture this month to see glimpses of Jesus as we wait for Christmas.
