Deuteronomy 5:16 (NIV):
“Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”
Listen in to this interview with Denise’s third daughter, Annalise, as she shares how she learned to turn her insecurity into a trust that cannot be shaken. The gifts of the fear of God and His word were her compass that helped her to turn from perfection and to trust in God, instead.
This year, as we celebrate Christmas, may we remember that the gifts of Christmas are not just on Christmas day, but all throughout our lives.
Great post. Annalise (and Denise)! I’m proud of you! I appreciated how you and your Mom shared how throughout your life you have often chose laughter even when you felt like crying. I have a saying the Lord gave me many years ago that says “You can choose to laugh or cry, but if you cry, your clothes will get wet…so you might as well laugh!” Just a little humor I’ve used on myself at difficult various times over my life. But seriously, although there are certainly times to mourn and experience sorrow (Ecclesiastes 3:4) we see numerous examples in God’s word (David, Ezekiel, all of the Israelites, Paul) where they moved from mourning to joy…intentionally. They got over the mourning and sorrow and CHOSE joy (and often laughter). I was so blessed by hearing how you have lived out Philippians 4:4 and I Thessalonians 5:18. I also appreciated the memory you shared of you and Deborah walking with God in “Prayer Valley”. Way to go, “God’s Girl”!
Thank you so much, Jeff! God is faithful! Always faithful! And He is worthy of our praise! We choose joy in adversity and affliction by His grace alone and He chose it first. 🙂
