Waiting can be difficult. But sometimes the hardest part of waiting isn’t the unanswered prayer. It’s the story we begin telling ourselves while we wait; when the answer doesn’t come, the door doesn’t open, the healing doesn’t happen, and the relationship remains broken.
Shame begins to whisper:
“Maybe God doesn’t care or has forgotten me.”
“Maybe I did something wrong.”
“I’m not worthy of His attention.”
“If God really loved me, things would be different by now.”
And before we realize it, we are no longer simply waiting on God.
We are questioning whether we matter to Him.
The Lie Shame Wants You to Believe
Shame often interprets delay as rejection.
It tells us: “God’s silence means God is disappointed.”
But Scripture tells a very different story. Throughout the Bible, God’s people experienced seasons of waiting. Joseph waited in prison.
David waited for the promise God had given him. Abraham waited for the child God promised. Israel waited generations for the Messiah. Their waiting was not evidence that God had forgotten them. It was evidence that God was faithful to His purposes.
What Grace Says Instead
Grace reminds us: “God’s timing is not a reflection of your worth.”
Your value was never determined by how quickly God answered a prayer. It was settled by the love He displayed through Christ.
The cross is the ultimate proof that God has not forgotten you.
Romans 8:32 reminds us: “He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also with Him grant us everything?”
God’s delays are never evidence of His absence. They are often invitations to deeper trust.
Waiting Is Not Wasted
We often think the waiting season is the place where life is on pause. But God does some of His deepest work there.
Waiting develops endurance, deepens dependence, and strengthens faith. That is, if we wait in faith, trusting Jesus knows best.
Waiting teaches us that our hope is not ultimately found in an answer. It is found in the One who holds the answer.
The question is not only: “When will God move?”
But: “Will I trust God while I wait?”
The Gentle Truth
Friend, if you are waiting today, do not allow shame to convince you that you have been forgotten.
God sees you. God knows you. He is working—even when you cannot see it.
The seed beneath the soil may look inactive, but something is happening beneath the surface.
Your waiting is not wasted. Your prayers are not ignored. Your story is not forgotten.
Shame Rx: Delay does not mean denial. Silence does not mean absence. God is still faithfully at work.
Reflection
- What have I interpreted as God’s absence that might actually be His work in progress?
- Have I allowed delay to make me question my worth?
- How can I watch for God’s activity while I wait?
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I have mistaken Your timing for Your absence. When waiting feels long, and answers seem delayed, remind me that You are faithful. Help me trust Your heart when I cannot understand Your ways. Give me eyes to see what You are doing and a heart that rests in who You are. Amen.
