Unentitled Inheritance
Good morning, friends! Day Sixteen! Today’s word is blessed. Everything belongs to God. Yet He wants to give us an unentitled inheritance that lasts forever.
Bible Reading: Joshua 9-12
Verse of the day is: Joshua 11:23, “So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war.”
Word of the day: Inheritance. It is the Hebrew word: נַחֲלָה (nakh-al-aw’).
This word means: Property, possession, heritage, portion, share; assigned by God.
God’s Victory Is Our Inheritance
God drove out the inhabitants of Canaan over time. Joshua and God’s people played a role of conquering to earn this inheritance. Once inhabited, the land was to be recognized as God’s, and as holy, dedicating it to God. God gave Joshua and the Israelites victory. But they also had to participate in the fight. We can’t get the victory if we do things our way. But when we do things God’s way, we obtain the inheritance God has for us.
Trust Him For the Victory In Battles
I love this definition of inheritance – portion, share, assigned by God. But there is something more to this word inheritance. The inheritance we have in Christ is eternal.
This world can see an inheritance as an entitlement—something they deserve or are owed. But an inheritance is a privilege and a blessing that we don’t deserve. God in His kindness invites us to participate with Him. When we position ourselves for His blessing by following His will, we will be blessed abundantly. But it will be a fight. Let’s look at the fight that Joshua had on his hands before he finally obtained his inheritance: Starting in Joshua 11:18-19: “Joshua made war A LONG TIME with all those kings. There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took them all in battle.
Trust God in the fights you face in this life. There is a purpose in the fight—God’s glory. God has an unentitled inheritance reserved for us. We don’t deserve it. He deserves the spoils but shares it with us! Matthew 25:34 says, “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.’
Application
Inheritance in this world is temporary. But our inheritance in Christ lasts forever.
There are a lot of things people may want as an inheritance, but for the godly, God is our inheritance. And we are His. Nothing could compare with that.
