Shame RX: When shame’s true colors are exposed, honor is restored.

Isaiah 61:7 

“Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy.”

Shame’s true colors rob us of our identity and set us on a treadmill of performance and self-focused living.

Shame, a tool of the enemy, is one of the biggest sources of condemnation.

And shame boxes us in with seemingly no escape. it works through people, through circumstances and through our own minds.

Surrounded in a culture of shame, we feel there is no escape and can acquiesce to its demands.

Shame is everything from mild embarrassment to worrying excessively what others think of us to being overwhelmed with our shame so we despair of life.

Shame defines us with false labels that only stick if we let them.

Without realizing it, we give shame power.  But what if we turned shame on its head and examined it, instead?

When we are tempted to see ourselves through shame’s lens, we could default to the Bible instead.

When we see our weakness, we could boast about it like Paul, instead of shrinking back? Seeing our need of Christ, we overcome shame and let it go.

Recognizing shame’s true colors and effect in our lives, we defuse it with truth, humility and grace and restore the honor Christ has given us.

Rather than shame, God wants to give us a double portion. Wow. What grace. Even though we deserved shame’s accusation, our kind God has set us free from any and all shame.

Shame’s true colors exposed, we choose God’s redemptive plan instead. Shame off us!
