When waiting is hard, and let’s be honest, when isn’t waiting hard? But tracing Jesus through our waiting reveals we are not waiting in vain.
The key thing to remember as we trace Jesus’ presence across the pages of Scripture and the moments of our lives is:
We don’t wait alone.
Last week, we traced Jesus to our hearts to the place where longing lives and hope aches.
This week, we sit honestly in the waiting.
Waiting is not passive.
It is not failure.
And it is not a sign that God has forgotten us.
Waiting is where faith stretches, hope is tested, and where God quietly does some of His deepest work.
When we trace Jesus through Scripture, we see that waiting has always been part of God’s redemptive story. The prophets waited centuries for the Messiah. Generations lived and died holding promises they would not see fulfilled in their lifetime—yet God’s word did not return empty.
The same God who fulfilled every promise about Jesus will fulfill His promises in you.
He cannot be unfaithful.
As I continue writing Thick Skin, Soft Heart, I’m learning that waiting requires both thick skin to endure the ache and a soft heart to keep believing God is good.
If you’re waiting for healing, clarity, restoration, or answers this Advent season, you are not behind. You are not forgotten. And you are not failing.
You are being formed.
Christ meets us in the waiting—not with shame, but with hope that never fails.
Scripture Reflection
“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.”
— Lamentations 3:25
This week, trace Jesus through your waiting by resting in His faithfulness rather than rushing the outcome.
Reflection Questions
• Where has waiting begun to feel discouraging or heavy?
• What promise of God can I return to this week?
• How might God be shaping my heart in this season?
🙏 Closing Prayer
Jesus, in this season of waiting, help us to trust You with what feels unfinished. When hope feels stretched and answers seem delayed, steady our hearts with Your faithfulness. Give us thick skin to endure the waiting and soft hearts that continue to believe You are good. Trace Your promises deep into our souls, and teach us to rest in the confidence that You are always at work—even when we cannot yet see it. We place our hope in You. Amen.
