No shame in surrender

Giving up is sometimes thought of as shameful. The walk of shame is usually a part of this surrender. But what if surrender is our strongest position? There is no shame in surrender when we surrender to the LORD.

Surrender means we rely on God’s strength, not our own.

It is a beautiful thing when we recognize we are not all that. Surrendering and admitting our need of God is our strongest position. We were made for relationship with God and He wants us to rely on His wisdom (James 1:5) and His understanding (Proverbs 3:5–6). We make surrendering more difficult when we don’t trust that God is capable.

Surrender means we recognize when something is not for us.

Sometimes quitting is really a beginning of something much better than what we were holding onto. Staying in a dysfunctional environment out of shame is not a worthy reason. Leaving to go to something that is God’s will for you will bear far greater fruit than staying where God is no longer leading you to stay. It demonstrates bravery to walk by faith and go where God is leading.

Surrender means we have victory.

Surrender is known for being a moment of defeat, yet often surrender means an end to conflict, too. God holds victory for those who rely on His strength instead of their own. Victory is not a temporary achievement, but an eternal one. There is no shame in surrender, friend, when we admit our need to God. This is the greatest moment of victory, instead.
