We often think our lack of peace is caused by our circumstances.
The chaos, uncertainty, and the weight of what we’re carrying.
But sometimes the deeper issue is not what’s happening around us…
…it’s what we believe about God in the middle of it.
Not loud unbelief.
Not a rejection of God.
But subtle, quiet unbelief that whispers:
“God won’t really meet me here.”
“This is too much for Him to fix.”
“I just have to get through this on my own.”
“Peace isn’t possible right now.”
And without even realizing it, we begin to live as though God is distant…instead of present.
Shame Rx:
Peace is not about perfect control—it’s about steady trust.
The Lie Behind the Struggle
Shame steps in when we feel overwhelmed and says:
“If your faith were stronger, you wouldn’t feel this way.”
“You should have more peace by now.”
“Something must be wrong with you.”
So instead of bringing our unrest to God…
We hide it, manage it, or push through it.
Shame keeps us from the very place where peace is found.
The Truth That Sets Us Free
God is not waiting for you to have perfect faith.
He is inviting you to bring your honest heart.
Even the father in Mark 9 cried out: “I believe; help my unbelief!”
And Jesus met him there.
Friend, unbelief is not something to be ashamed of.
It is something to bring to God.
What Peace Actually Looks Like
Peace is not:
- having everything figured out
- feeling calm all the time
- controlling your thoughts perfectly
Peace is:
- turning to God when your thoughts are not calm
- trusting Him when your emotions feel heavy
- bringing your unrest instead of burying it
Living Free from This Lie
When you feel anxious … turn to Him.
Or your thoughts spiral … bring them to Him.
When your heart feels heavy … stay with Him.
Peace grows where trust replaces self-reliance.
You don’t need stronger faith.
You need a steady turning.
Reflection
Where have I believed that God won’t meet me in my struggle?
Am I trying to manage internally what I need to surrender?
What would it look like to bring my unbelief honestly to God?
Prayer
Lord, You see the places where I struggle to trust You. Forgive me for trying to carry what only You can hold. Help me bring my unbelief to You honestly, without shame. Teach me to turn to You in every anxious moment and to trust that You are present, willing, and able to meet me there. Amen.
